Addiction Recovery Plan
What is an addiction recovery plan?
In order to make recovery a success, an addiction recovery plan is essential. The recovering addict must have as much structure as possible in his life after drugs or alcohol abuse. This structure – and the goals contained within in it – will provide the foundation for a new life without addiction. Without this structure, the recovering addict is that much more likely to slip back into old, drug or alcohol related habits.
The Different Types of Addiction Recovery plans
Although the needs of recovering addicts vary by the individual, here are some of the most common, and most productive elements of an effective after-care recovery plan:
Attend AA Meetings – Although Alcoholics Anonymous (and related "Anonymous" programs for other substances and issues) is not the program for everyone, it has made a tremendous impact on the lives of millions of recovering addicts. If you make the choice to attend AA meetings, then be consistent and work those regular meetings into your addiction recovery plan.
After-Care Meeting – If you are not involved with AA, you are still likely to have an after-care program that you must attend. Don't miss meetings or appointments! These meetings are designed to help you recover – and not attending them on a regular basis may impede your recovery and could potentially bring about feelings of shame and self-doubt.
Eat three meals every day – Your addiction recovery plan is dependent on your good health. By eating regularly and eating more healthily, you will be improving your body and staying discipline. And discipline is at the core of your effective addiction recovery plan.
Pick simple tasks to remind you that you are in the process of recovery – Something as simple as cleaning your kitchen or making your bed every day can give you a tremendous of feeling of accomplishment as you move on with the grander task of addiction recovery. Pick something small and do it every day as part of your addiction recovery plan.
Exercise regularly – Things that build discipline and encourage good health are the absolute best things to have in your addiction recovery plan. Exercising at least three times a week will help you get back in shape and enhance the detoxification process.
