Celebrity Drug Addiction Rumors: Steven Tyler

November 24, 2009

Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler has been under the microscope recently and the subject of many rumors. What is the media reporting as the scuttlebutt on Tyler? Drug addiction. It’s a problem that affects more than a few musicians and artist and if the Biography channel and VH1′s ‘Behind the Music’ series is any indication, celebrity doesn’t make addiction any less of a possibility.

Band Mates Say Tyler Might Have ‘Drug Abuse Going On’

The report from other members of Aerosmith is that Steven Tyler has been MIA for months now. Brad Whitford is the guitarist for the band and he says that he thinks Tyler is still struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.

Tyler’s history with drug abuse and addiction is common knowledge. And when the singer fell from the stage during a show in South Dakota in August, he had the group cancel the rest of the summer tour. Since then, Tyler has not made contact with any of the other band members and Whitford seems to think that it’s not a good sign.

He told rockradio.com that: “This guy has a tremendous history of drug abuse, and you have to be suspicious that this is something that is probably going on with him. I think that’s got to be a part of this irrational behavior. People in recovery and stuff, if you’re really doing it, it takes a lot of work.

“Historically or statistically, the majority of people in that situation don’t make it. I have a feeling we might be looking at, you know, someone who’s just really struggling very badly with this.”

Aerosmith, Drug Addiction and the Future

Though Tyler declared that he was not quitting the band when he made onstage appearances with them last summer, his band mates aren’t sure how to move forward. No one wants to carry on without Tyler.

Drummer Joey Kramer says: “You know, getting someone else is one of the questions. We all know that there’s really no way to replace Steven, but we want to continue touring together.

“We even have a 40-year anniversary coming up and it’s a milestone. We want to be able to celebrate it together and there’s millions of fans out there that are dedicated to us.”

Joe Perry, another band mate, says that if they have to, Aerosmith will continue on without Tyler.
