Charlie Sheen Swears He’s Clean and Sober
In case you were wondering, all of Sheen’s recent appearances have not been drug-induced, according to him. On a Today Show interview, when asked if he was clean and sober, Sheen replied: “Look at me. Duh.” The interviewer followed up by asking him how long it had been since he was last loaded and Sheen responded: “Don’t remember. Don’t care. Drug tests don’t lie.” On a later news show interview, Sheen even produced pages of negative test results.
Charlie Sheen and Past Drug Addiction
Sheen does admit that this hasn’t always been so. He doesn’t deny that the bender at the end of January occurred, but blames it on boredom rather than addiction. He said: “I don’t know if I’d call it out of control, but the choices I was making weren’t leading to the choice I wanted. I woke up and thought, ‘You’re 45 years old with 5 kids. Let’s do something different.’ I got bored.”
Sheen’s Take on Drug Rehab
Though CBS chartered a jet for the star of their sitcom, Two and a Half Men, in order to get him straight to a drug addiction treatment center, Sheen declined. He opted instead to stay home and attempt an in-home treatment. Says Sheen: “It was a crisis management center we labeled the Sober Valley Lodge.”
When asked how he managed to get clean and sober, he said he simply closed his eyes, willed himself clean and sober and “made it so.” He claimed that he had “tiger blood” and “Adonis blood” that helped him as well. He told his fans not to be concerned about him: “I’ve always had a plan and executed it perfectly. Sometimes I overshoot the mark, whatever.”
“Winning It” with Addiction and Life in General
Sheen also famously said to one interviewer: “I’m going to live my life the way I want and I’m going to win every moment!”
The statement has spawned a number of TV show segments and specials dedicated to answering the question: “Is Charlie Sheen winning or is he losing his friggin’ mind?” The general consensus of the substance abuse professionals -all of whom are careful to acknowledge that they have not met Sheen nor have they treated him -is that he is on a manic high that is sure to crash and crash hard. Many express serious concern about his rants, his narcissism and his “god complex.’ It’s not a fun or safe place to be mentally and each one wishes that he would accept serious mental health treatment.
Whether or not he’s clean and sober in the moment, one thing is clear: with a lifelong history of drug abuse and addiction, it’s only a matter of time before relapse hits, especially if he doesn’t engage in effective drug addiction treatment.
