David Arquette to Oprah: I Stole Pot from My Dad at Age 8
Another story that supports what should obvious to the American public: it’s just not a very good idea to get loaded around your kids. Even if you aren’t smoking marijuana or shooting up in front of them, you’ve got to keep your stash somewhere. Kids are curious. They’ll find your stuff eventually, and if they have any idea what it is, they’ll likely try a little of it themselves.
If you have children and you are living with an active drug addiction, you don’t have to continue risking their safety and health. Getting help is a simple phone call away. Contact us today to learn more about your drug addiction treatment options.
Finding Dad’s Beer and Pot: How Addiction Starts
That was the story told by David Arquette to Oprah recently. Arquette related a childhood story about finding his Dad’s marijuana and stealing it from him. Having just gotten out of drug rehab before appearing on the show, Arquette told Oprah a little bit of his drug history, starting with some of his early using experiences.
Arquette told Oprah: “When I had my first drink of beer, I must have been four-years-old. I was down in the basement with my dad and beer was there, and I just grabbed it and drank it. And I remember that. It’s one of my earliest memories.
“I seriously started drinking probably when I was about 12. I stole pot from my father when I was eight years old,” said Arquette.
Helping Your Loved One Find Addiction Treatment Through an Intervention
Arquette says that he’s come a long way since then. He says he’s been sober since December 29 and on January 2, he voluntarily checked himself into a drug and alcohol rehab and stayed there until he finished the inpatient program.
Arquette relayed the details of an impromptu intervention held for him by his sister Patricia Arquette and Courteney Cox, the mother of his six-year-old daughter. He says: “I came back from Miami and I had taken a nap. I woke up and Patricia and Courteney were at my bed. Courteney had a cup of coffee. I was like, “What are you two doing here together?’ I already knew.
“Courteney’s like, “Do you mind coming out to the living room for a minute?’ I said, “Sure, let me get dressed.’ I put on this white outfit and came out. I peeked my head out and [I saw] my best friend Hartwell and my business partner and some guy I don’t know. I go “What up, Turkeys? I guess this is my intervention!’”
