Deadliest Catch Star Dead, Marijuana Found in Room

March 7, 2011

Deadliest Catch star Justin Tennison was found dead in an Alaskan hotel room last month at the age of 33, according to Us Magazine. When police were called to the Best Western Bidarka Inn in Homer, Alaska, to investigate a deceased male, they found Tennison as well as a small amount of marijuana and some bottles of alcohol in the room. Examiners and police have not yet determined whether or not the drugs and alcohol were the cause Tennison’s death or played any part at all.

Fans will remember Tennison as the engineer and deckhand aboard the Time Bandit on captained by Andy Hillstrand. Captain Hillstrand posted on the Time Bandit website after Tennison’s death:

“Justin was tough as a bull and was an all-around good hand. The Captains and Crew appreciated his hard work and many contributions this past year. We will miss him terribly and wish his family all the best during this most difficult time.”

Risks of Drug Abuse

Unfortunately, it is not only those who are addicted to drugs who suffer as a result of drug abuse. Those who have underlying medical conditions may discover the issue when they suffer complications as a result of drug abuse. Many may not even realize that they have an underlying medical condition until it is too late.

Additionally, the risk of overdose on the initial use of a drug is high among those unfamiliar with the effects of certain drugs is a concern. Combining drugs, too, can create problems: for example, mixing cocaine and alcohol creates a synergistic effect in which the two combine to far greater effect than the effects of both separately. Other dangers can occur without addiction as well: accident, negligence, damage to property, court costs due to arrest, and life altering problems due to driving under the influence.

Fighting Drug Abuse

If you are concerned that your drug abuse may result in catastrophe or that addiction may be hovering in your future, you do have a choice. Changing your path can change your destination. There’s no reason to feel like you are stuck in drug abuse with no ability to help yourself. Drug rehab and drug addiction counseling can help you get back on track and choose a more positive outcome for your life. If you are not physically dependent upon your drug of choice, an outpatient addiction treatment program might be a good choice for you. If you would like something more intensive to help you avoid relapse in early recovery, inpatient drug rehab programs are available.
