New Medical Marijuana Drinks Causing Controversy
New medical marijuana cafes, constant debate over medical marijuana legislation and news of raids has been peppering California media for years. In California, a new line of medical marijuana soft drinks are planned by Cana Catering to grace the shelves next to brownies, cookies, crackers and other “medible” snacks laced with THC. These drinks have names like “Leisurely Lemonade” and “Compassion Fruit Punch,” and those who have tried it are reporting that it actually tastes good and many California medical marijuana establishments are prepared to accept the new beverages into the fold.

A similar product is being developed in Colorado, but critics are emerging to debate the social responsibility of the flashy marketing that may encourage children and young adults to indulge in the beverages.
Bob Cooke is the Regional Director of the National Narcotic officer’s Association Coalition. He says: “This should appear to be a legitimate form of medication, not a soda pop that children could easily confuse as a real soda pop.”
Critics of the criticism are unconcerned about the risk of children abusing the products, saying it is no greater than the risk of children abusing prescription drugs in the house or stealing a bottle from Mom and Dad’s liquor cabinet. They advocate responsibility on the part of the patient and, if children are in the house, parents should take extra precaution just as they would with other substances that are harmful to children.
