While You Wait: Dealing with Withdrawal Symptoms Before Alcohol Rehab
How do you handle withdrawal symptoms that come when you stop drinking, especially if you’ve already made plans to enter alcohol rehab? There are a number of different options for patients, and there is no one right way to do things for everyone. Speak to your primary care physician or a counselor at your alcohol rehab if you have concerns.
Dealing with Withdrawal Symptoms Before an Alcohol Rehab Without Detox
Some alcohol rehab programs do not include alcohol detox and they require that all patients be alcohol free before beginning treatment. Unfortunately, this can cause a problem for some patients living with a long-term alcohol addiction. It may be impossible to quit alone, causing frustration and destroying hopes for recovery before they begin. If you are going to an alcohol addiction treatment program that doesn’t include alcohol detox and you experience withdrawal symptoms, find an alcohol detox that can provide you with the medical care you need.
Dealing with Withdrawal Symptoms Before an Alcohol Rehab with Detox
If you stop drinking prior to entering an alcohol rehab that does offer medical alcohol detox services and you experience withdrawal symptoms, do not continue to detox alone. It simply isn’t safe or recommended to do an at-home alcohol detox under any circumstances and, if you have already enrolled in treatment, there’s no reason to take the risk when you will have care and supervision in short order. It’s a good idea to avoid bingeing on alcohol before you head to alcohol rehab, but don’t cut out alcohol completely if alcohol withdrawal symptoms are an issue.
