Drug Rehab Facility
The Need for a Drug Rehab Facility
A drug rehab facility provides a place for the drug addict to get clean and complete a series of programs designed to help them create a life without drugs.
There are many different types of drug rehab facilities. Some drug rehab facilities focus on medical treatments for withdrawal and detoxification. Other facilities dig deep into the psychology of the individual and try to get at the root cause of the addiction through the conscious or subconscious mind.
Choosing the right drug rehab facility is an important decision that will directly impact the future of the addict. With thousands and thousands of drug rehab facilities across the country, there are many to choose from. Some come with a very high price tag – and can cost as much as $10,000 for a thirty-day program. Other drug rehab facilities are less expensive and still deliver an excellent level of care for the recovering addict.
The procedures at drug rehab facilities vary as well, including:
Outpatient rehab – Also known as day treatment, outpatient care is not an overnight stay program. Instead, the individual in recovery attends the program several times during the week for three to five hours per day. The individual in outpatient rehab returns home each day after the program is over.
Inpatient rehab – Rehab and detox at an inpatient drug rehab facility requires overnight stay. The programs generally last three to five weeks and can be more expensive that outpatient rehab. It should be noted that some inpatient programs can last as long as a full year.
Aftercare programs – Once the initial drug rehab facility program is complete, the patient will be urged to take part in an aftercare program. Available for both inpatient and outpatient "graduates", aftercare programs help keep individuals from relapsing – and eases transition back into the world without alcohol.
Sober living homes – Sober living homes are a form of drug rehab facility but are not treatment programs themselves (in fact, no treatment goes on within their walls) but they do offer a safe haven for those going through rehab. The residents of a sober living home may attend work, school, or treatment programs during the day – but always return to the home in the evening and abide by its rules and regulations.
What you can expect at an drug rehab facility – Despite the different types of rehab available, there are several things that occur during almost every program, including: individual counseling, group counseling, substance abuse education classes, behavioral therapy, relapse prevention and a variety of lectures. The goal of all these different programs is to help the recovering addict get sober and maintain sobriety for life.
Rehab at Michael's House includes: Development of relapse prevention skills, education about alcoholism, as well as information about other conditions that might be present, introduction to 12-Step principles, and identification of relapse triggers. Evaluation for medication treatments to control cravings or reduce withdrawal symptoms is recognized as a viable option and if a mental health condition is also present, medications might also be necessary to treat that condition.
