Drug Rehab Scams

Drug addiction treatment and drug rehab are big business in the United States. It's not without warrant: hundreds of thousands of Americans seek treatment for drug and alcohol addiction every year. However, there are some drug rehab programs that are not certified and are not above board in their practice, offering inflated promises and magic cures to a disease that has no cure.

Michael's House is a certified drug and alcohol rehab treatment center in southern California. Our program consists of a wide range of treatments and therapies that are evidence-based and proven to work. If you would like more information about what we offer, contact us today.

Drug Rehab Scams: Rapid Detox

One of the most widely talked about drug rehab scam is the 'rapid detox.' Because the physical withdrawal symptoms associated with physical dependence upon a drug can be so intense, many are looking for a way to bypass those symptoms and "kick" as quickly as possible. Some drug rehab centers promise that you can be free from drug addiction in less than 24 hours with a rapid detox and flushing system that happens on the operating table. Others provide for a week's recovery from drug addiction when you undergo their surgical treatment or quit according to their (very specific and obscure) plan.

The fact is, drug detox takes time in order to be both safe and effective. Anything 'rapid' in nature puts you at risk and won't last long.

Drug Rehab Scams: Pills, Potions, Diets and Promises

There are a number of infomercials and drug rehab centers promising freedom from drug addiction through special diets, magic drinks, vitamin supplements or some combination thereof. Others offer philosophies and step-by-step regimens outlined in books and workbooks that are 'guaranteed' to help you stop using drugs and alcohol… for a price. If you look at the fine print, you'll see that each bottle of supplements costs a fortune and will only last a few days to a week. The books are far more expensive than any other book on the market and the diet plans are pricey as well, usually including supplements designed by the author.

If one of these products really worked, they would be prescribed by every doctor and handed out by outreach programs and free clinics as a matter of course. Anything with over-the-top curative promises will only separate you from your money.

Drug Rehab Scams: Why They Don't Work

We all want to believe the promises offered by drug rehab scams. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for drug and alcohol addiction treatment and there is no cure. There are, however, many effective treatments that promote long lasting abstinence. These include medical detox, psychotherapeutic treatments including relapse prevention and sober living services.
