Drug Rehab Staff

When an individual enters a drug rehab facility, the staff makes a huge impact on that person's experience while in care. A well-trained, caring staff of experts can make a significant impact in the life of the recovering addict.

The most prominent people on the drug rehab staff are the medical professionals who care for the recovering addicts.  Among the majority of drug rehab staffs, you will find: psychologists, medical doctors, clinicians, counselors and other trusted professionals.  These people form a kind of extended family for the recovering addict as they make their way through rehab.

How Drug Rehab Staff can help you

At some drug rehab facilities, an individual may encounter members of the staff who are themselves recovering drug addicts.  These former addicts provide an excellent complement to the professional psychiatric and medical staff at the rehab facility because they bring additional empathy and understanding to the proceedings.   Recovering addicts know what the patient is going through, and stand as living proof that success can be achieved via the drug rehab program.

The individual can expect to interact with the drug rehab staff in a variety of ways.  Some sessions with counselors or psychologists will be in a group setting – with several peers sitting in a circle sharing stories and confiding in one another.  Other sessions, perhaps those with medical doctors or psychologists where privacy is an issue, will take place in a one-on-one setting.

Dealing with the drug rehab staff may, at first, be a challenge for the recovering addict.  Their withdrawal symptoms may leave them in an angry state, or perhaps they are upset with their friends and family for checking them in – and decide to take it out on the very people who are trying to help them.  Over time, as the addict acclimates to his or her surrounding, the hope is that these issues will dissipate and the relationship between staff and patient will turn into a happier, more productive one.

These scenarios will vary by facility, but one overarching principle is the familiarity the patient will begin to feel with the drug rehab staff.  These are people that recovering addicts will learn to turn to in a very fragile time in their lives.  Seeing the same faces every day, and knowing they are there to listen and to help, gives the individual a tremendous amount of stability.  This stability forms the building blocks of regaining a stable, drug-free life.
