Drug Rehab
Drug Rehabilitation is an important part of the process of recovering from addiction to drugs, alcohol and co-occurring disorders. In addition to discontinuing drug use and stabilizing mental disorders, treatment helps individuals establish a foundation of recovery and begin to function effectively in their families, workplaces, and communities.
While in treatment, individuals learn about addiction, recovery, and the dangers of relapse while simultaneously confronting misunderstandings about self, others, and their environment. A drug rehabilitation center like Michael's House helps individual’s make important lifestyle changes, manage feelings, develop tools for coping, and learn skills instrumental in successful abstinence. Our drug rehab centers also teach individuals to identify the warning signs for drug and alcohol relapse and design effective strategies for preventing a relapse. Statistics show that without a solid plan to avoid or handle addiction triggers, patients often relapse into the behavior that brought them to the drug rehab facility.
For many drug addicts and alcoholics, success is a direct function of the amount of assistance they receive during their rehabilitation program. Those who remain in a drug rehab center longer than three months usually have better results than those who spend less time there. Research conducted over the last 25 years demonstrates that drug rehabilitation centers work to reduce an individual's drug use as well as prevent the potential commission of crimes by drug abusers. Research has also shown that those who have successfully completed a drug rehab program are more likely to secure employment.
For most individuals, an inpatient residential drug rehab program is the best option for successful recovery. Research indicates that inpatient drug rehab is the most successful kind of care for those who have had multiple unsuccessful attempts at recovery through outpatient treatment. Those who have abused drugs or alcohol heavily for years may have even more difficulty quitting. An individual in this category may be best served by attending a long-term inpatient alcohol and drug rehab program like our Extended Care Program. A drug rehab center's ability to handle all types of drug addiction is critical. At Michael's House we understand how to detox and treat specific drug addictions such as: methamphetamine addiction, marijuana addiction, heroin addiction, cocaine addiction, xanax abuse, and prescription medication abuse.
Alcohol Rehab
Effective alcohol rehabilitation programs provide a variety of services aimed at meeting the treatment goals and needs of the people they serve. At Michael's House, you or your loved one determines the pace for alcohol rehabilitation according to your (or your loved one's) readiness to recover or change. Alcohol rehab at Michael's House includes:
Development of relapse prevention skills, education about alcoholism, as well as information about other conditions that might be present, introduction to 12-Step principles, and identification of relapse triggers. Evaluation for medication treatments to control cravings or reduce withdrawal symptoms is recognized as a viable option and if a mental health condition is also present, medications might also be necessary to treat that condition.
Many alcohol rehab programs have historically strictly provided alcohol rehab without attention to other mental issues. However, given the impact of addiction on other life issues, it is no surprise that mental health complications are very common among those who participate in alcohol rehab programs. In fact, more than 44% of alcoholics have mental health complications prior to the onset of alcohol dependence and many others develop mood-related complications, such as depression and dysthymia, after the onset of the addiction. We now know the importance of alcohol rehab centers to incorporate mental health treatments in addition to alcohol rehab services and at Michael's House we know how to treat these co-occurring disorders.
Co-Occurring Disorders
The terms co-occurring disorders and dual-diagnosis describe a condition where a person is affected by both chemical dependency and an emotional or psychiatric illness. These terms (Co-occurring and dually diagnosed) are often used interchangeably with the terms co-morbidity, concurrent disorders, co-morbid disorders, and dual disorder. Individuals who experience a dual diagnosis often face a wide range of psychosocial issues and may experience more than two interacting illnesses. The treatment program at Michael's House is nationally recognized for integrative and evidence based methods that have produced proven results for individuals with addiction and mental health disorders, we are one of very few facilities that is prepared to deal effectively with co-occurring disorders.
Recent strides in research about mental health and addiction treatment tell us that more than half of the people affected by one condition (such as an addiction) are also affected by at least one other condition (such as an emotional condition), and vice versa. We also have learned that when all conditions are not treated at the same time (or one or more conditions is under-treated), recovery is far more difficult. Unfortunately, because many addiction treatment and mental health programs treat only one condition, many people are under-treated (or inappropriately treated). This means that drug addiction treatment (as well as mental health or alcoholism addiction treatment) is less likely to be effective, and relapse of one or both conditions is far more likely.
SAMHSA, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, is the federal agency designated to oversee addiction treatment and mental health services facilities in the United States. Over recent years SAMHSA has increased its emphasis on and commitment to integrating mental health and addiction treatment to better serve the millions of underserved Americans affected by co-occurring emotional and addictive conditions.
For the most successful treatment experience, it is important that you or your loved one select a treatment provider that addresses all of your needs. As such, whether you are seeking services through an addiction treatment center (for drug addiction treatment or alcoholism addiction treatment) or through a mental health provider, ensure that they are committed to meeting all of your needs.
Treatment
Our treatment philosophy incorporates a variety of clinical components to create a comprehensive, integrative Treatment Program. The components of our integrated approach to alcohol and drug rehab include detox, individual therapy, and group therapy. Our drug rehab program is founded on The Foundations Treatment Model, which utilizes Motivational Interviewing methods and philosophies and recognizes Stages of Change in the recovery process.
Many drug rehab and alcohol rehab programs offer treatment that deals with addiction but not the other emotional and mental issues that the majority of individuals with substance abuse issues are also facing.
Up to 65.5% of individuals with substance abuse/dependency issues have at least one co-occurring mental disorder, and 51% of individuals with a mental disorder also have at least one co-occurring addictive disorder (Kessler, 1994).
Michael's House offers treatment for addictive disorders and co-occurring mental disorders together. Our evidence based, integrative methods have been proven more effective than traditional drug and alcohol treatment methods in a five-year research study using the Foundations Treatment Model.
At Michael's House we help people restore their lives by embracing a way of life based upon the 12-Step principles of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA). Our program is founded on The Foundations Treatment Model .
