Alcohol Intervention Help
There are millions of Americans who abuse alcohol, and a large percentage of them either don’t believe that they have an addiction, or recognize their dependence and refuse to get help. While many alcoholics refuse to seek treatment on their own, their friends and family recognize the destructive path that they’re on with their alcohol abuse. It can be a big challenge for loved ones to convince alcoholics that it’s time to enter rehab to recover from their alcohol dependence, which is why there is alcohol intervention help available.
What are Alcohol Intervention Services?
Families who are unable to approach or convince an alcoholic that they care about that it’s time to receive treatment for their alcohol abuse can use a professional interventionist. These individuals have experience in dealing with the most difficult situations and can guide families through any emotional or even violent reactions the alcoholic may have when being confronted about their addiction. With alcohol intervention help services, a specific plan can be put in place to help persuade an alcoholic that it’s time to be rehabilitated from their disease. Interventionists are in a better position to guide the process since they are not emotionally attached to the alcoholic, and as alcohol and addiction counsellors, they are qualified to provide guidance and assistance to alcoholics.
The Alcohol Addiction Intervention Process
A qualified alcohol counsellor will provide intervention help by working with the family and friends to confront an alcoholic and persuade them to enter into alcohol rehab treatment for their dependence. Families and friends are an essential part of the alcohol intervention process because when an alcoholic hears how their addiction affected the lives of the people most important to them, they can be more easily persuaded. Alcoholics may not be concerned for their own well-being, but sometimes understanding the grave impact they’ve had upon others can make a difference.
Everything about the alcohol intervention process is pre-planned. For effective alcohol intervention help, it’s essential that the confrontation with the alcoholic takes place in a controlled environment. Often, a more public place is selected for the alcohol intervention; sometimes even the workplace of the alcoholic because they are more likely to listen to their family discuss their alcohol addiction without disruption.
An alcohol interventionist will usually have families write down the ways that their loved ones alcohol abuse has impacted them emotionally, financially and physically. They may also provide consequences should the alcoholic refuse to treat their alcoholism.
Intervention for Alcoholism Treatment
When an alcohol intervention takes place, the treatment plan is organized in advance by the family. Inpatient alcohol rehab is typically the best option for those who require alcohol intervention help. Families should pre-select a treatment facility, and make arrangements to transport the alcoholic to begin the rehab program almost immediately following the intervention to ensure there is no opportunity to back out.
