California Drug Intervention
Every day, hundreds of California residents enter a drug rehab program. But how do they get there? Studies have shown that drugs addicts rarely admit that they have a problem, and few walk in the door of a drug treatment facility ready to begin rehab.
What is a California Drug Intervention?
In California, drug intervention is the most common gateway into treatment. A drug intervention occurs when friends and family of the individual, working with a professional interventionist, call a meeting to help the person in question see that they have a problem and need treatment immediately.
The Steps of an Intervention
Step #1: Recognizing that there is a drug problemIf the individual has mentioned that they have been taking drugs such as cocaine, heroin, marijuana or other substance, or if one or more members of the family of social circle have spotted the tell-tale signs of drug abuse, then it is an appropriate time to call for a drug intervention.
Step #2: Contact a California drug intervention professionalIt is important to NEVER attempt to hold an intervention without first consulting a professional. An interventionist can help organize the event, determine the proper topics of discussion, recommend locations and even be present at the intervention itself. Simply put, an intervention professional helps insure that everything is executed in a safe, productive manner.
Step #3: Prepare for the interventionIt is recommended that everyone involved with the intervention get together beforehand to rehearse what will be said, and who is going to say it. Although interventions can be unpredictable, by going over potential outcomes ahead of time, the chances of getting the addicted individual help is that much greater. TIP: So that everyone is not talking over one another, elect a main speaker to voice the concerns of the group.
Step #4: Hold the interventionMake sure the intervention takes place in a safe location where the individual in question feel comfortable. Do not use threatening or confrontational language during the intervention. Remind the individual that the only motive is to make sure they get the help that they need to overcome drug addiction. Interventions can take several hours to complete, depending upon the attitude of the subject, so make sure everyone involved has blocked off enough time for the event.
Step #5: Get the individual into treatmentIf everything goes according to plan, the individual should be taken to a California drug rehab center immediately following the intervention. It is important to "keep the momentum going" and not allow the individual to have second thoughts about getting drug treatment. This means one or more of those holding the intervention should research appropriate drug rehab facilities beforehand. Also, make it easy for the individual to gather their belongings and any essentials they will need while in treatment (if they are going to a residential rehab program).
