The primary line of conversation during these interventions is to explain how substance abuse is affecting the individual’s work performance as well as his or her relationship with others.

What Happens during a Corporate Drug Intervention?

The first step in a drug intervention involves contacting a professional interventionist to help oversee the proceedings. The interventionist will be able to perform a number of important tasks, including: making sure that the discourse stays productive, the environment is safe and that the end goals are met.

During the intervention itself, individuals (or one individual speaking for the group) will have a chance to voice their thoughts and feelings about the addicted co-worker. Without being threatening or confrontational, this is an opportunity to point instances where the individual’s behavior has affected the team’s performance or made people in the office feel uncomfortable.

If everything goes according to plan during the intervention, the individual will be taken immediately to a drug rehab facility (that has been researched beforehand) so that their treatment can begin.
