USA Today: Michael’s House CEO Quoted in USA Today

Michael’s House CEO Krista Gilbert was recently quoted in USA Today for an article about Lindsay Lohan’s troublesome rehab experience. Lohan was receiving court-ordered treatment at the Betty Ford Center in Palm Springs, CA, but not without a hitch. An employee was recently fired for leaking a report to the tabloids about a battery charge against Lohan for hurting the employee’s wrist and leaving it severely strained. USA Today consulted Krista Gilbert to explain the possible reasons why Lohan has had so much difficulty.

The following is an excerpt from the USA Today article:

“ ‘Lohan’s behavior while she has been in the Coachella Valley is typical of someone who is forced into rehab,’ said Krista Gilbert, CEO of Michael’s House.

“Michael’s House is a Palm Springs-based treatment center that also treats celebrities and residents for alcohol and drug addictions. She said court-ordered rehab—what she dubbed ‘coerced treatment’—usually doesn’t work.

“ ‘Everyone is watching every moment, every breath, every choice she makes, so it’s difficult to create an air of emotional safety,’ Gilbert said.

” ‘The hope is, they can let down their guards and their defenses even just a tiny bit, or enough to be able to do some genuine therapeutic work.’”
