Paying for Sober Living
Paying for sober living, like paying for drug and alcohol rehab, may mean a little creative budgeting. For those who have spent a great deal of time living with addiction and already spent quite a bit of money on addiction treatment, sober living costs may be more difficult to cover. Here are some options for finding the funds to pay for your sober living stay.
At Michael’s House, we offer a sober living home on the same estate as our drug and alcohol rehab. Contact us at 1-877-345-8494 to learn more about how we can help you start your new life in sobriety.
Paying for Sober Living with Insurance
Most basic health insurance policies won’t cover the costs of sober living if your doctor does not classify it as medically necessary like drug and alcohol rehab. There are, however, some high end insurance policies that may cover part of the cost or the entire cost up to a certain amount of time. Certain add-on insurance policies are available as well and these will cover the costs of extended care and treatment for drug addiction. If you have questions about your insurance policy and what exactly is covered, call your insurance agent or your human resources representative for specifics.
Paying for Sober Living Through the Facility
Many sober living homes and their drug and alcohol addiction treatment counterparts will work with you to come up with a payment plan. Financing may be an option and those with low to moderate incomes may benefit from sliding scale payments, or payments graduated based on what you can afford. Scholarships may be available in some cases. Call the sober living home that you are interested in and ask what their options are.
Paying for Sober Living With Outside Sources
By the time most people get to the point that they are ready to pay for sober living, they’ve already spent everything they have on their addiction, medical costs, legal fees, and drug and alcohol rehab. It’s really difficult to find creative sources of income to funnel into paying a sober living bill. Here are a few options you might consider:
- Borrowing from friends and family
- Tapping into savings
- Selling assets
- Taking out a personal, medical or hardship loan
- Applying at nonprofits for scholarships or assistance
