Robert has a BA in political science from Carthage College and master’s in clinical psychology with a LGBT specialization from Antioch University.

Robert joined the staff of Michael’s House in March of 2009. He currently works as a therapist at Michael’s House South providing individual, group, and family therapy to clients along with lecturing groups on recovery.

Robert’s past experience includes industrial sales, retail management and being a middle school teacher. He has also worked as a residential weekend manager at McIntyre House, a non-profit recovery program in Hollywood, CA.

“Being in recovery myself, I wanted to do whatever I could to help others recover from the disease of addiction which is why I went back to graduate school,” says Ishinger. “I love helping people begin to view their lives in different ways. It is most rewarding when a client begins to see that there is more to who they are than being an alcoholic/drug addict.”

After gaining his master’s degree, Robert co-authored a PowerPoint outreach project for Antioch’s LGBT Specialization program designed to help educate other mental health professionals about LGBT affirmative psychotherapy.

When not at work Robert enjoy movies, travel, reading and 12 step meetings.
