Vicodin is an opioid-based painkiller, which means it is in the same chemical family as morphine, a highly addicted opiate medication.

Opiate addiction is a common side effect of opioid-based prescription drugs like Vicodin and despite this fact, Vicodin is a common prescription for moderate pain. More and more people are entering Vicodin detox in an effort to break their physical dependence, choosing from treatments that include medical Vicodin detox, a Suboxone detox or a natural Vicodin detox.

At Michael’s House, we offer all three of these types of Vicodin detox. Contact us today to learn more about how we can help you break free from Vicodin addiction.

Medical Detox

A medical Vicodin detox combines simplicity with efficiency.

One of the shorter types of Vicodin detox available, a medical detox requires that you stop taking Vicodin completely but under the supervision of medical professionals. If you are physically dependent upon the drug, you will soon begin to experience withdrawal symptoms and for those that are most overwhelming, you will be given medication to ease that particular symptom. For example, if you are nauseous, you will be given an anti-nausea medication. If you are unable to sleep, you will be given anti-insomnia medication. If you are having muscle spasms and twitches, you will be given something that will help.

The symptoms are treated until your body readjusts to life without a constant influx of opiates as you detox the toxins out of your system.

Suboxone Detox

A Suboxone detox also requires that you stop taking Vicodin completely, but it is a longer Vicodin detox. You take the Suboxone almost like a replacement drug, but because of its chemical makeup, it blocks the symptoms of withdrawal that you might otherwise feel and cannot be abuse the way Vicodin can.
For example, you can’t overdose on Suboxone the way you can overdose on Vicodin and you can’t get “high” using it either, so the abuse potential isn’t there. Over time, you will lower your dose of Suboxone until you are completely free of your drug dependence, allowing you to move forward in your recovery.

Natural Detox

A natural Vicodin detox asks that you not only stop taking Vicodin right away but that you not take any other medications during detox. The underlying philosophy is this: drugs are toxic. This is evidenced by the many who started taking Vicodin in a positive way, to treat a medical condition, only to end up with an addiction that now requires treatment. The belief is that the answer to a medical condition based on toxicity is not to add more toxins into the mix. The preference is to instead flush out all the toxins in your system as effectively as possible without adding more through tons of medical and psychological support, rest, organic food and gentle exercise including acupuncture and acupressure.
